THE BOSTON GLOBE The Affordable Care Act

Featured in the Boston Globe Op-Ed section today.

This was a very quick turn assignment. The story came in at 4 p.m. on Monday, sketches were turned in by 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, reworked sketches turned in by 10:00 a.m. and the final turned in at 3 p.m. Heres the meat and potatoes of the story and what the image is based on.

In recent days, concern over the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has reached a fever pitch, as Republican members of the House threaten to shut down government unless the ACA is defunded or delayed. At the same time, a handful of states are moving to undermine its implementation. While I by no means want to downplay the urgency of this situation, I would like to offer some reassurance as to the patient’s ultimate prognosis—as long as we remain committed to funding public health prevention efforts.

Many thanks to AD Heather Hopp for the assignment.
