DAVID BYRNE & ST. VINCENT

David Byrne & St. Vincent have managed to create one heck of an album - "Love This Giant"  which is available now. I was asked by Vita.MN to illustrate the duo for their current Fall Music Preview Guide cover which is out today in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area. Old Electrical cords were used in the construction of St. Vincent’s iconic curly black hair along with yarn, rope, wool and lots of frayed white rope for David’s hair. DWIGHT YOAKAM on vinyl

Here’s the LP vinyl edition I created for Dwight Yoakam's much-anticipated new album 3 Pears. I’ve been a fan of Dwight’s for years  - so I’m pretty excited to be part of this record. Oh, and yes . . . that is white vinyl . . . but only for the limited edition promotional ones! NOTE: the letter art for Dwight’s name was cut out by hand and photographed in my front yard. A few samples shown here. I'll be posting some of the 20+ cover comps that were presented along with images of the CD package in the coming days.

TAMPA BAY TIMES

A few weeks ago, an inquiry arrived from Art Direcotor Suzette Moyer of the Tampa Bay Times. She was looking for someone to illustrate a museum preview story for a cover feature section. The article looks at 8 museums in the Tampa Bay area (Dali, Fine Arts Museum, Ringling, Tampa Art museum, photo museum, etc). It previews the year and there are no specific works coming to Tampa this year that are standout so the writer took a generic approach by focusing on single museums when new shows arrive. The theme and direction I recieved was “the museum experience.” This was a tough one! Here are a few of my sketch concepts (we flipped the specs width and height at the last minute) along with process photos and the final image that ran this past weekend on Sunday, September 2nd. Land of the Living - Matthew Perryman Jones

Back in December I was approached by the ridiculously talented Matthew Perryman Jones and asked if I would be interested in working on the packaging for his upcoming album. To quote Matthew: “The overall theme of the record is sort of a coming back to life but goes through a journey of the darker sides between the opening and ending track.” Matthew and I worked together a few years back and I knew that whatever the record sounded like it was going to be awesome -  and let me say that this album is off the charts I N C R E D I B L E!  In the coming weeks, I will be showing more of the actual construction of this art but for now, wanted to invite you in to my thought process - the early developmental stages for concepts. I am very pleased with the end result as is Matthew. However, as an artist - feedback is always welcome. Please let me know what you think.

The Catholic Health Association

Recently, I was contacted by The Catholic Health Association asking if I would be interested in illustrating some articles for their November / December 2011 Journal. They requested my pen and ink style. The issue is devoted to problem solving in urban core and inner cities regarding healthcare and aid. We started with the article "Embracing Our Cities" which ended up making the cover. There are an additional 9 illustrations featured throughout. A few of those samples are shown here. Thanks to all the kind folks at CHA! To all the wonderful AD's I've worked with over the years . . . pen and ink is a style that I offer in addition to collage and mixed media.
